Clear Braces
Invisalign braces, also called clear braces, are just one of the many orthodontic procedures performed by cosmetic dentists today. They are made of a translucent type of ceramic or crystallized plastic substance.
The Invisalign braces use a series of translucent (clear) custom-moulded aligner to straighten the teeth. These aligners will need to be replaced once every two weeks with each new aligner being a different shape. This process helps to straighten teeth with each step. These aligner trays are made with a computer fabricated design that use the x-rays and moulds taken of the patient’s mouth and create custom aligners. An orthodontist that specializes in Invisalign braces can show the patient a picture of what their smile will look like after the treatment has been completed.
The Invisalign braces were made to be removable so that the patient could eat, drink, chew gum and brush their teeth without any obstructions in their mouth. It is important that the patient leave the aligner in for the majority of the day, and all night, for it to work correctly.
Clear, Invisalign braces are said to be one of the more comfortable options where oral braces are concerned. There are no metal wires used in the clear brace system. This means there are no devices inside of the mouth to poke painful holes in the patient’s cheeks.
Invisalign braces work over time for many different patients to straighten their teeth. While this newer designed brace system does work for some, it will not work for more extreme cases. An orthodontist will be able to evaluate each patients needs before giving them their options.
There are also invisible Lingual braces which use a gold bracket. These brackets are placed on the back side of the teeth to keep them invisible to the eye when the person talks or eats. This type of dental appliance can be used in simple or complex cases. These types of braces are on the higher end of cost and will depend on the orthodontist if they choose to use this option.
Invisalign Teen is a newer clear brace product that orthodontists are using on their younger patients. It works much like the other Invisalign brace system with custom made plastic aligners. These invisible braces were made for teens so that they can keep their self-esteem while having their teeth straightened. It is also easier on teens since many play various sports and metal braces would cause the child more injury than plastic. The teen version of Invisalign has a blue dot indicator built into them to let the teen know when it is time to move on to the next aligner in the series.
