Cosmetic surgery
Surgical Makeover
Cosmetic surgery is a name applied to any type of changes made to physical appearance by a physician. Today, a person can have any part of their appearance altered or completely changed if they wish. Some popular procedures performed by a cosmetic surgeon include breast implants, chin reduction, arm lift and fat injections.
Chin Reduction
Chin reduction, or mentoplasty, is where a surgeon will reduce the size of a patients chin size. They can do this by shaving the bone and reshaping it with a bone burr or a drill. The incision for this type of procedure can either be under the lower lip and inside the mouth or under the chin in a place that is easier to hide a scar. Complications from this type of cosmetic surgery are very rare. If there are any it is usually a slight infection that a physician can administer antibiotics for. As with any type of cosmetic surgery there will be a little bruising afterward. Also a patient may feel a little discomfort while moving their jaw by yawning or eating.
Arm Lift
If anyone has ever gone through a massive weight loss or even muscle loss in their life they should be quite familiar with bat wings. This is the unsightly skin that droops on the back of the arm. Cosmetic surgeons can help with these flabs of hanging skin by performing an arm lift. This procedure is performed by a surgeon while the patient is sedated with use of anaesthesia. The surgery itself is not invasive and should generally only be around two hours long. The hospital stay after an arm lift surgery is preformed is very minimal. In most cases the patient can be on their way home the same day as the surgery. There will be slight bruising and pain right after the surgery which a physician will administer a prescription of pain medication for. The patient can expect to see the final results of the arm lift within six months after the surgery.
Fat Injections
Fat injections are performed by cosmetic surgeons to help enhance or create facial features in their patients. This procedure involves taking fat from one area of the body and injecting it into another part. The fat is removed with a vacuum type tube then it gets cleaned. Once cleaned, the fat is then injected into the area where it is needed. Fat injections work great on problems like crow’s feet and acne scars. There are not many side effects associated with this type of procedure or any real pain involved. The entire fat injection procedure usually takes around two hours for the surgeon to complete and is often times an out-patient procedure.
